Learning the history of this house has been a little challenging. There is still a lot we do not know about the building or the Eader family who originally lived here. But we are continuing our research nonetheless. We have, however, learned a little bit about the notorious bank robber from the 1930’s who hid within these wall while he was on the run from the law. We don’t know why he stayed here but we know he did! Pretty Boy Floyd was known for robbing banks in an attempt to aid those less fortunate than the wealthy. He was given the phrase “the Robin Hood of his time”, along with his nickname of Pretty Boy Floyd. Bummer news today. We cannot keep the original hardwood floors in the formal living room. The foundation has crumbled beneath it and when we try to take the boards up, they snap. Silver lining is that we can repurpose this beautiful old wood into something really cool, like an bar for cocktail hour… The other good news is that this house is getting fixed from the inside out. It gives me so much comfort to know that all weddings and events that happen here are being done on a strong foundation, and nothing that is crumbling beneath them. It’s not the news we had hoped for in regards to the flooring, but I know moving forward this is the best, and the new floors will maintain the aesthetics and elegance that this house embodies. I was reminded today to enjoy the process… so often we just want the next phase, the next big thing, the completed project… but if we slow down and look at the spot we are in… I have found that can I learn a lot about myself, about those around me and I have an opportunity to grow and be better than I was before.
